Hails and Farewells

We said a fond farewell to Raquel and wish her well in her retirement.  We pray for Alexis W. as she is leaving us this month to undergo surgery.  We welcome Olivia in the Monkeys and Denise in the kitchen!

Mara's Memos

We will be focusing on reading this month.  We will have a class reading competition.  For every NEW book read in class, the teachers will add a link to their paper caterpillar.  The two classrooms with the longest caterpillars by noon on October 22nd will win a prize for their classroom.  Books that are already in their classroom can’t be counted for this contest, so we are relying on our parents to bring books from home or the library to share each day. (Make sure you label the books with your child’s name.)  Feel free to make  arrangements with your teacher to sit in the classroom and read your favorite story or two to the children. (masks are required)  Our students love it when parents, grandparents, or even older siblings come and help in their class for a short time.  To culminate this reading frenzy we will have Storybook Character Day on the 27th.  We are not celebrating Halloween.  Your child may dress up, but their costume should match a book that they bring in that day to share with their class.  We will spend the day reading everyone’s books and let the children act out the stories since they will be in costume.  Please do not dress up your child in a scary costume: NO witches, ghosts, vampires, zombies, monster, etc.  This is not a Halloween celebration.  We will devote the day to reading, crafts, games, and activities that relate to the books we are reading.
